NFL 2009 week 8

I am in a pool that we do every year. This year I am not doing so well. We count games (just picking the winner)and points (1 point on the game you most unsure about, 2 on the next, etc). Out of five guys, I am fourth in both.

This week we have the loserbowl. In that game I am taking Detroit, but who knows. That's my 1 point game. I am taking the Vikings over the Packers. I am picking the Titans to beat the Jaguars for their first game of the year.

This week I am Captain Majority, not being alone or on the the short side of any 2-3 splits. For some reason this does not make me feel comfortable...we'll see how it goes.

Torchlight

I picked up torchlight. It was $20 bucks and I liked the cartoon-ish graphics. I like it so far. It is really just Diablo with different graphics and tweaks. REALLY. Just like Diablo. I can't even bring myself to write a real review. The guys who made the game used to work for Blizzard, so I am guessing that the reason that Blizzard is not suing them has something to do with that.

I have a warrior (I think they call them destroyers) up to 18th. My biggest complaint is the same one I have from Diablo, which was not being able to change your camera angle. It really bothers me.

I saw a video of the president of Relic, who made the game, and they said that they are going to start on an MMO for this game. I have to say that I think I would try it, barring any unforeseen choices they might make that would turn me off.

lfd2 demo played

Ok, I played the demo for lfd2. I liked it. I am now sick of the two campaign parts they let you do, but that's a good thing. I played it until I was sick of it. Many more weapons, more monster types, melee weapons. I love the magnum pistol and the AK-47. Now I just have to wait for the full version in a couple of weeks.

lfd2 demo

Well this lfd2 demo is having some issues. It is now at 3:00 pm PDT. It was 1 pm when I first checked today, then 2 pm, now 3 pm. Of course last night it said 11 pm yesterday...I'm chomping at the bit here.

Meeting Celebrities

Do you ever think of funny (or at least funny to you) things that you'd like to say to a celebrity if you ever met them? I have a couple that I think of every time I see said celebrity on tv:

Ashton Kutcher: "Hey, it's that dumb guy from That 70's Show!"

Seth Rogan: "Hey it's the villian's sidekick from Donnie Darko!"

Sean Penn: "Hey, it's that dumb guy from Fast Times at Ridgemont High! Fuck you!"

Of course, the closest I have ever come to meeting a celebrity was seeing Hutger Hauer at the Sacramento Airport. Oh, and my cousin is in the Ditty Bops.

Random game stuff

I played a good deal of l4d last night. It was the first time in quite a while that I put in any real time on the game. I got invited by a Steam friend. We did some survival games. We got Golds on the construction site instance. We got others a couple of golds that my friend and I already had.

We also tried that one from the new mission with the howitzer. We got to around nine minutes, but lost our fourth just when it looked like we had the gold. He dropped out and when the game took over his character he walked out just in front of me and stopped just as a tank came running up, so he absorbed a lot of the shotgun blasts meant for the tank, which then beat the rest of us down. Also, crap servers. I don't what happened while I was not playing, but all of a sudden there are a ton of shitty servers out there. Finally my friend hosted a server locally, so at least he had a good ping.

I am downloading the demo for lfd2 right now. Yeah, that means I pre-ordered lfd2. I am thinking of turning off Champions Online. With my starting to play tf2, lfd, and wow again, I just don't have enough time to justify the subscription fee. I will definitely go back to it, though. It is a much better game than CoH, imho. I didn't think so at first, but it grew on me.

Trying again

Ok, so I am trying this blogging thing yet again. This time you can blame Wil Wheaton. I recently(re)discovered him. I was watching the Guild season 3, and when Wil (I call him Wil because he and I are, like, hecka tight (meaning I read one of his 70-odd page leaflets and started following him on Twitter this morning)) came on, I thought he looked familiar and almost looked him up to see who he was. Him not being an attractive female however, I lost interest and looked up Michele Boyd instead.

A while later I was reading the blog A dribble of Ink and they reviewed Wil's book 'The happiest days of our lives'. In that they mentioned that he was in season three of the Guild. In one those moments from almost every tv show ever my mouth opened and I said, 'ohhhh' as I realized who the killer was...err...who that guy was. They also mentioned his blog. I looked that up, and fuck, it is Brad Pitt all over again. Damn it.

You see, when Brad Pitt first started acting he sucked. That's not strong enough...he SUUUUCKED! Horrible. Awful. Ruined, along with Tom Cruise, Interview with a Vampire for me. Then se7en and 12 Monkeys came out and I liked hm in both of those. Then he had some more stinkers and my near-crisis ended. Then came Snatch and Fight Club, and I loved him in both those movies. It was like my whole world was turned upside down. If Brad Pitt doesn't SUUUUCK, then what can I count on, really? Since then I have liked him in everything I have seen him in. He has become one of my favorite actors, and man does that still feel weird to say.

So I always disliked Wesley Crusher, and in my youth I was just shallow enough to hold that against the actor. Since then I have grown to be able to separate actor from character in all but the most obnoxious cases. But since this vague dislike for the dude that played Lil' Crusher went way back, it was still there. Now here I am again. I like him in the Guild. I like his blog. I like his writing. I have discovered that we have a lot in common: grew up playing rpgs, two stepsons, etc. I ordered one of his short books off of Lulu (Sunken Treasures) and really liked it. I just ordered Dancing Barefoot from Amazon, which I am sure will be a very macho book about manly things. I check back and let you know once I have read it.

Reading his blog got me fired up to try this again, so here I go.
